Antipose
Antipose is a photobook that challenges the very act of posing. Drawing on Marc Augé’s concept of the Non-place and Einstein’s theory of space-time, the project introduces the idea of the antipose: an image made through the deliberate absence of intention, performance, and mise-en-scène.
Created through a series of controlled yet uncertain studio experiments, the photographs emerge from moments neither photographer nor model could fully anticipate or control. The final works—produced using analog large-format photography and mordançage printing—embrace chance, instability, and material transformation.
Released alongside an exhibition in December 2025, Antipose is both a conceptual inquiry and a tactile object, inviting readers to reconsider presence, time, and the act of being seen.
Photography and text by Tarek Mourad with a foreword by Dr. Hassan Choubassi.
